2008 Fame Games Effigy Awards - Best Blues Rock Artist - January 17, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 17,2008

MIKE PARRISH WINS 2008 INTERNATIONAL FAME GAMES EFFIGY AWARD FOR BEST BLUES ROCK ARTIST Marbella, Spain

Mike Parrish is very pleased to announce that he has been awarded the 2008 International Fame Games Radio Effigy Award for BEST BLUES ROCK ARTIST. "Texas in the Man" was submitted to Fame Games in 2007 and, although the song is the title track from Mike's solo album, this song is actually a collaboration between Mike and his lifelong friend Sammy Hundley. In fact, "Texas in the Man" is the first actual Parrish-Hundley song ever written and recorded. "I'm very pleased to receive the 2008 Effigy Award for Best Blues Rock Artist and both Sammy and I are completely honored because of the caliber of artists who are continually featured on the show. There were thousands of nominees for these awards so I have to say that I was honored just to have become one of the five finalists in the Blues Rock category but even more so honored to have actually won the award. First and foremost, I wish to thank our fans because without their continued love and support none of this could happen - ever, I'd like to thank the reviewers, the expert panel of judges, including Mr. Tony Cowell and the entire International Fame Games crew for their awesome support and endless dedication to bringing independent artists to the worldwide stage. I want to especially thank Sammy Hundley who, I feel, should have been named as a co-recipient of this prestigious and coveted award as well. Sammy and I wrote, recorded and routinely perform this song together but it ended up on my first solo album. We've talked about re-releasing the song on the forthcoming Parrish-Hundley project and we've also discussed capturing it live from one of the shows." Over 80,000 votes were cast to decide this year's Fame Games Effigy Award winners. Mike Parrish was also the 2007 International Fame Games Effigy Award Winner for MOST POPULAR ARTIST and Sammy Hundley was the 2007 Effigy Award Winner for BEST ACOUSTIC ARTIST for his song entitled "Never Letting Go" from the acoustic album "House Full of Nothing. ReverbNation Country Music Charts - We're No. 7! - October 15, 2008

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all those who continue to vote and support my music at ReverbNation.com and UrLabel.net

Needless to say, we were overjoyed when the ReverbNation Country charts came out this morning and showed that we'd moved into the No. 7 position. That's a very respectable position and it simply couldn't have been done without all the wonderful support of my friends. I really and truly appreciate this awesome event that you've made happen with my music.

To put some things into perspective, to date there are 2,448 country bands on ReverbNation so you helping me attain the No. 7 position is a completely huge thing for me especially when you consider the legendary company you've put me in. For instance, Trace Adkins is No.1 - Kenny Chesney is No. 2 - Gary Allan is No. 3 - Brandon Rhyder is No. 4 - Thom Shepherd is No. 5 - Eric Michael Hopper is No. 6 and we're at No. 7.

Thanks to all my friends here in the United States, Europe, Australia and the world abroad. I really appreciate ALL your support.

I truly hope your days are as joyous as you've made mine.

Your Friend

Surving Ike - by Mike Parrish - September 25, 2008

I've often been asked where I get the inspiration for some of the songs I write and my response is simply that I draw my inspiration from the lives of all the wonderful people I am so fortunate to meet and from my own life experiences. I remember, as Hurricane Ike was looming in the Gulf of Mexico, that sense of dread as I watched the weather on one of our local news channels. At the time, there was no fear of losing my life nor the lives of any of my friends or family or my property but I was dreading the mere thought of being without power for an extended and unknown period of time. I was dreading the inconvenience of being without the everyday luxuries many of us so often take for granted. I dreaded the idea of long lines at the fuel pumps, closed restaraunts, convenience stores and supermarkets temporarily shut down, the lack of telephone and internet service. I dreaded the thought that all of my frozen and refrigerated food would ruin, that outdoor grilling amongst swarms of mosquitos would become a way of life for a while, that shows would be cancelled due to evacuation traffic and power outages, that even washing dirty laundry would be placed on hold for an indefinite period. I dreaded the idea that there'd be no satellite television and that radio stations would become filled with news chatter rather than playing my favorite songs and all of these thoughts occurred while Ike was still five days away.

As the might of this storm and its destination became even more obvious I noticed that my dread was slowly being replaced by concern. As I watched the news reports with satellite images depicting the monstrous size of Hurricane Ike, as it spanned across the entire Gulf of Mexico, I knew that if this storm came ashore its devastation would be horrific. In the days to come I began to realize that the little conveniences that I'd grown so accustomed to enjoying weren't important at all and on the night that Hurricane Ike was poised to strike Galveston and the Bolivar Penninsula my concerns quickly turned into fear for the lives of the people, my friends, my relatives residing in southeast Texas.

This would be the first hurricane that I would endure on my own volition. For the past 17 years, as a Texas Peace Officer, I endured them as part of my duties ensuring public safety and aiding those whom were in need. This storm was different for me because now I was watching the drama unfold from the recliner in my den and the sanctity of my home.

For many years, I took my family on week-long vacations to Crystal Beach, Texas, located on the Bolivar Penninsula just east of Galveston Island, where we rented cabins. Some years we went as often as two or three times because we loved the area, the people and the refreshing slower-paced way of life that we'd found there. My youngest daughter, Amanda, was born in Galveston and spent her honeymoon on the penninsula. My oldest daughter, Misty, renewed her vows there during her ten-year anniversary. My middle daughter, Krystal, celebrated several birthdays there because her birthday always came along during our first Summer vacation of each year. The first pilot track for the "Texas in the Man" album (entitled "Runnin' Outa Time") was recorded there. The opening lyrics for my "Buffett Time" tune mentions Crystal Beach as such; "Well I know a lotta people just like me who love to gather round on Crystal Beach and we'll do damned well as we please." Each time we visited the Strand on the island or took a vacation on the penninsula we were always excited about getting there and saddened when it was time to leave. My wife and I always believed we would one day make the area our home.

On the night that Ike struck the Texas shores, all the conveniences that I dreaded losing weren't important anymore, in fact they were the furthest thing from my mind. Property was no longer a major concern. The only concern that anyone had was for the safety of all those who would soon be affected by this storm. Ike was so vast in its dimension that it seemed as if it had been stirred by the actual finger of God only to be abandoned for the devil to jump onto its back and take the reins. It was determined and unmerciful as it swooped in with its devastating winds, torrential rain and unstoppable storm surges. I sat in my recliner as I watched its forward progress on the weather channel and when the radar displayed the storms outer bands begin to scatter across Liberty County I heard the wind picking up outside.

My wife Tonya remains employed as a telecommunications operator, more commonly referred to as a police dispatcher, and she was at her post, along with other dispatchers, fielding calls and dispatching officers to calls for service until the storm became so powerful and so dangerous that all emergency response personnel were grounded until the storm had passed. First there was a flicker, more like a blink and then all electrical power, including telephone services, were lost. Cellular telephone services were soon knocked out as towers began to fall or become wind damaged. Krystal, my youngest grandson Kendryck and I sat in the den, by candlelight, listening to Tonya's voice on a battery operated police band radio and from time to time we were able to send text messages to let her know that we were alright but soon even text messaging became impossible.

I knew in my heart that all the members of my entire family were all in safe places but even so, without the possibility of phone contact, there was so much worry simply because there was no way to just call them up and check on them. By 4:30 am the winds were so strong that we could hear trees breaking all around our neighborhood, including in my own yard. Our home fell in the path of the dirty side of Ike and there were several reports of tornados in the area so, for further precaution, Krystal, Kendryck and I moved into the hallway of our home and waited out the remainder of the storm.

When dawn came we found that our home had suffered substantial damage. Much of the roof was severely damaged causing large holes in the den and dining room. The Parrish-Hundley recording studio, which was built inside my home, was completely destroyed including major water damage to the floor and almost the entire celing had fallen in. Trees had fallen across the power line connecting to the house pulling the entire meter loop from the exterior wall. Much of the neighbors roof was now in my front yard.

As the winds died down people began emerging from their shelters to check on their neighbors, their families and friends. By noon, Tonya had made it home and we began assessing the damages together and making trips to check on the welfare of others. Everyone was alright. There seemed to be no serious injuries or deaths of anyone in our area. Even though our home was severely damaged it was really of no consequence whatsoever. All the many things that I'd dreaded losing really didn't seem to matter now. All the conveniences that I didn't want to live without weren't even missed. It would be 11 days for us before power would be restored to our area. All of the refrigerated food would spoil and there'd be no grocery stores open. Government trucks would be delivering ice, water and military rations known as MREs and we'd cook on Coleman stoves and BBQ pits. Mosquitos would swarm, the days would be hot, the nights filled with the noise of gas powered generators offering at least some comfort to those who could afford them or those lucky enough to find one, there'd be only cold showers at night, and days spent waiting for news.

During this time, our family counted the many blessings that had been bestowed upon us. As we heard the news of the devastation of Galveston Island and the Bolivar Penninsula we were simply thankful that our family and friends had survived Ike's wrath. We were thankful that we'd have the opportunity to see the faces of the people we've known and loved. And we were very aware that the people of Galveston and the penninsula were suffering tremendous hardships including the loss of life, total loss of their homes, complete and utter destruction of their world. As I looked through the photos of my family I was reminded that, regardless of whatever damages my home sustained, I still had my family and all of my friends. I still had a place to call home and it would be as good as new when it's repaired. My heart went out to all those people, and their families, who were lost in the path of Ike, whose lives were destroyed, whose way of life would be forever changed.

Nothing can ever be so important as life itself.

I survived Ike and from that experience I've found so very much inspiration from the undauntable people of southeast Texas. I've watched them empower each other and offer the proverbial helping hand. I've seen strangers become friends and friends become family. I've seen neighbors band together forming their own small circle of comfort and in the end even the most pessimistic has a renewed faith in the generosity and benevolence of mankind even in the face of great adversity and loss. These troubled times have without a doubt been trying upon the survivors of Hurricane Ike but the manner in which these people have proudly stood side by side, one supporting another and then passing on those random acts of good faith from one person to the next makes me so very proud to be a Texan, so honored to be an American and so blessed to be among those who have seen the finest hours of so many who have suffered so greatly.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the surviviors of Hurricane Ike. May you continue to press forward to rebuild your lives knowing fully that you are loved and cared for deeply.

"Goin' Back to Texas" Charts in United Kingdom - September 25, 2008

The Parrish-Hundley team is very pleased to learn that "Goin' Back to Texas" has made the European Country Music National Top 40 Charts again in the United Kingdom holding at #37 for two weeks in a row.

"Thanks so much to all the DJs and presenters who continue to play tracks from our Texas in the Man album," said Mike Parrish. "We've just learned about this most recent charting due to being engulfed in the devestation left in the wake of Hurricane Ike. Sammy and I live in southeast Liberty County, Texas and were affected by the storm just as our entire region. We lost power in the early morning hours of September 12 and regained power just yesterday evening (September 23) around 5:30 pm. Internet capabilities were restored today and we were very pleasntly surprised to learn that in the midst of so much tragedy there was at least one piece of really good news for us."

This charting in the United Kingdom marks the 14th time that 4 songs from our album has made it to the European Charts in 7 countries since it was released in September 2007.

KSHN 99.9 FM Interview - Liberty, Texas - August 21, 2008

Thanks to Bill Buchanan and Shine-All-Nine KSHN 99.9 FM in Liberty, Texas for inviting the Parrish-Hundley team for an interview concerning Mike's solo album "Texas in the Man" and the successes the album has seen on the European Country Music Association National Top 40 Charts.

While Sammy was unable to attend, Mike really enjoyed the interview. Liberty County Justice of the Peace Pct #1 Bobby Rader, and his daughter Sarah, attended and were a part of the interview as well. Anyone who knows Mike and is familiar with his law enforcement career also knows that Judge Rader was a tremendous influence on him as a young boy growing up in southeast Texas. In those days, Judge Rader was a Texas Highway Patrolman.

Two songs were aired on KSHN and they were "Blue Jean Baby" and "Texas in the Man."

"Several tunes from our September 2007 release of 'Texas in the Man' still haven't been heard in Europe but Sammy and I are extremely proud of the success we've seen thus far. In the past 10 months we've had 3 songs to make the National Top 40 Charts of 7 European countries 10 times with those three tunes and, for a couple of small town country boys I'd have to say that's not a bad start," Mike commented. "Sammy and I built a studio in my home, we wrote all of the songs, we played all of the instruments, with the exception of the drums which were played by Alan Dossett and we recorded the entire album ourselves. All of the vocals are Sammy Hundley and I, including background vocals with the exception of "Angel Fly" where we brought in Desiree Singleton and Krystal Parrish (Mike's daughter) to help. Needless to say, we put a lot of hard work into this album and, if it never does anything else, it's already made a lifelong dream come true."

"You Like Me" Debuts on Fame Games - July 3, 2008

Sammy Hundley's first full-production tune from his still un-titled forthcoming album debuted on the International Fame Games Radio Show today. The song is entitled "You Like Me" and, while the song is still in the audition stage, Willow Street Entertainment Group as well as the Freese Media Group expect the tune to do very well on the show.

On December 11, 2007, Sammy entered "Never Letting Go," a tune from his newly released acoustic album entitled "House Full of Nothing" in the International Fame Games Radio Contest and it did very well. The acoustic album defines Sammy's awesome talent and brings his stage to the world because this is exactly the way fans heard him in his live solo shows, just Sammy and his guitar. "Never Letting Go" earned Sammy the 2007 International Fame Games Effigy Award for "Best Song in Acoustic Style" and went on to air in Fame Games Main Edition on May 23, 2008.

In reference to "Never Letting Go," one Fame Games reviewer was quoted as saying, ´´I´ve heard this song during the Effigy Awards and it caught me immediately. It´s that vocal! It´s also a really great song and I would be surprised if it didn´t get endorsements from folks right across the board.´´

While Sammy stays very busy honing the remaining tracks for this forthcoming album, he's also joined forces with Mike Parrish, lifelong friend and recording artist, to begin work on the forthcoming Parrish-Hundley Project. Sammy and Mike have been performing their acoustic duo show throughout the greater Houston area in a rather large number of various venues and future plans include a European tour after achieving some success on several of the European National Top 40 Charts. Lori Freese, manager and publicist with Freese Media Group and owner of DISH-Houston, has recently come aboard to help guide the duo into what looks to be a very promising future.

Lori Freese is an award winning television producer. She has produced the number one ABC newscast in the country as well as national shows like American Idol, Bridezillas and Wifeswap. She just recently casted for Last Comic Standing for NBC and you can also see her in the Katz's Deli commercials. She produced and hosted a Texas-wide weekly television show about music and had her own radio show on KLOL when it was still a rock station.

"You Like Me" is only the first release from a very promising album. While the remainder of the album is still in production, Sammy expects to be adding the final touches very soon and releasing it in its entirety. In the meantime, if you happen to be in the Houston area, check out Sammy's calendar for his next show!
