Travis Weston Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - March 3, 2008

Deep lyrics
The chorus is giving me chills. I love the guitar at the end of the chorus, it adds to the emotion there, and that's exactly what you want.

You couldn't have said it better:

"Any american knows that freedom ain't really free"

Don't you worry about that outro, that's great. This is the first song in ages (including the radio) to make me tear up.

I love it.

Radio Interview - KAPB 97.7 FM - Marksville, LA - February 23, 2008

The Parrish-Hundley duo were honored to be interviewed, via telephone, by KAPB 97.7 FM in Marksville, Louisiana on Saturday, February 23, 2008.

DJ John Ponthier commented that the "Texas in the Man" CD was more of a "country-bluesy sort of album" and further remarked that listeners couldn't help but hear that the Parrish-Hundley team were having fun the entire time they were recording.

The highlight of the show surrounded discussion of the April 12th, 2008 Winn Parish Fairgrounds show which is near Winnfield. This will be the first annual Country Music Festival in the area so naturally Mike and Sammy are very pleased to be a part of it.

Mr. Ponthier advised the listeners that Liz Grobman, the Parrish-Hundley Street Team Coordinator for Louisiana, would be on hand at KAPB the weekend of February 29th to give a few tickets away to station callers.

There were a few laughs and the interview ended with the first track from the album entitled "Blue Jean Baby." When the guys were off the air, KAPB gave away a copy of "Texas in the Man" to the first caller who could properly identify the name of the tune that was being played.

Mike & Sammy wish to sincerely thank Mr. Ponthier and KAPB for having them on the air. The interview was a lot of fun.

For those of you in the Marksville, Louisiana area, be sure to tune into KAPB 97.7 FM for the very best in today's country music. Give John a call at 318-253-5272 and request a tune from "Texas in the Man!"

Jerry Clemens Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - February 17, 2008

Patriotic Southern Rock Crossover
First and foremost, thank you for supporting the troops! Technically speaking I like the southern-rock feel of this song. The harmony is subtle but distinct which works well. I am not sure how I feel about the tempo changes. On second listen, the temp does help this song, so lets call it a extra-credit piece; generally when songs change tempo often I feel like yelling "make up your mind!". Overall I would listen to the song again not because it is well done but it personally hits close to home for me.

Kate McCarthy Reviews "Texas in the Man" - February 16, 2008

Great Texas Song!
Lot of songs are written 'bout Texas... cause it's just so big. This song delivers with the rockin' country feel... Love the slide and lead guitar. Lyrics are very original... not borrowed from Asleep at the Wheel. We've needed another good Texas song for a long time. The writer is correct in saying that "Until you've been to Texas, hey, you just don't get it!" We're our own little country! Good luck with this one!!!!

Todd Harris Reviews "Goin' Back to Texas" - February 15, 2008

Nice Vocals
This is an interesting song, good chord progressions, very nice lyrics. Good stong vocals. I like how the song progressed from the simple guitar in the beginning to the full instrumentation later in the song. Good instrumentation. Engineered well, good balance. All in All not a bad song.

David Ostridge Reviews "Blue Jean Baby" - February 13, 2008

Southern boogie
The guitar starts out screamin' on this one, like Molly Hatchet or even Jimi Hendrix, but when the vocals come in they sort of soften the performance down a bit to where it's probably palatable for country music radio these days.

Instrumentally, this is pure Southern rock boogie, with the alternating slide and regular lead guitar workouts. The instruments sound great, they're all there, right with it, the mix is perfect.

The voice has none of the grit you usually hear with this type of song, but as I said earlier, that's probably the ticket to the country market for this song. The harmonies lend a Commander Cody feel in place and they are well done, but discrete. Indistinct maybe would be the word. Maybe too much reverb on the harmonies?

There are a number of good lines in the lyrics, and the story it tells and the images it paints are entertaining. All in all, a rollicking good 3 minutes.

Marcus Singletary Reviews "Goin' Back to Texas" - February 12, 2008

Dire Straits Meets Moby Grape at Graceland? Go Figure.
The guitar lines have been used on recordings by such legends as Neil Young, CSNY, The Byrds, Poco, The Eagles, and so on, meaning the playing and progression are somewhat cliche. The vocals sound like either the Eagles or Moby Grape, and the "Goin' Back to Texas" made me immediately think of Moby Grape. When the music kicks in, I definitely think Moby Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service, or the Grateful Dead. Obviously, this is not meant to be "traditional" country, but "country" the way Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia meant it. I love those San Francisco groups, and I can hear some Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler in there. Meaning that this is a decent homogenization of retro/roots rock styles. As for the performance, a little cliche in that all of the parts have been done before, to varying degrees. Vocalist sounds like the lowest voiced member of Moby Grape, who I think was Don Stephenson. Guitarist sounds like Mark Knopfler. 4 stars, at least. Production is good, song is good, arrangement is good, all around decent stuff.

Marcus Singletary Reviews "Blue Jean Baby" - February 12, 2008

White Boy Blues
This is "White Boy Blues." Not like that's a bad thing. I enjoy stuff like Little Charlie and the Nightcats, the "California Cool" style of music that the bands play nowadays in Bakersfield and such places. "Brown hair" and "Green eyes" are mentioned in the lyrics, giving the listener a clear picture of the woman being referenced. Those lyrics are punctuated by engaging guitar solos. Especially, the slide player is hot, and gives this tune a Derek Trucks/Allman Brothers/Eric Clapton Band feel. It certainly has as much soul as "Cocaine" or anything JJ Cale ever did. Nice job.

Doug Drake Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - February 9, 2008

Patriotic
Excellent patriotic song. Very interesting changeup of beats throughout the song. Nice guitar work. Touching lyrics. Outro? I know that's really popular, repeating the first line, as in Alan Jackson does it on every freakin song he sings. I do like the loneliness and signularity of yours contrasted to the instrumentation leading up to it. It's just personal opinion but I don't really care for the first line being repeated in the outro. There's no way I'd mark you down for that, I only say it because you specifically ask. Everything else about this is absolutely top notch!

Jamie Young Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - February 4, 2008

Incorporates many elements
Intro 'walks' us into it. Mix and progression are great, and musicians are great. Has a Steve Earle vocal feel to it. I love the arrangement and progression...the change was well thought out and sounds great. Nice unexpected R.E.M type chorus on it. It's kind of "Americana" (verse, progression) and has a western (feel, vocal) country style....but a good listen, nonetheless...

The Allendales Review "Goin' Back to Texas" - February 2, 2008

Take a trip south of the border
I definitely get a Flying Burrito Brothers and/or Doug Sahm feel from this song, and maybe a little bit of Roger Clyne as well. The song sounds very professional and well-done, probably one of the better sounding songs I have heard so far. The instruments are all clear, and nothing sounds out of balance. Very well done.
