Mike Parrish: News

The Allendales Review "Goin' Back to Texas" - February 2, 2008

Take a trip south of the border
I definitely get a Flying Burrito Brothers and/or Doug Sahm feel from this song, and maybe a little bit of Roger Clyne as well. The song sounds very professional and well-done, probably one of the better sounding songs I have heard so far. The instruments are all clear, and nothing sounds out of balance. Very well done.

Jamie Young Reviews "Blue Jean Baby" - February 1, 2008

blue and red
Screaming guitar intro a little out of place with the harmonics. More suited to being a hard rock song than country. Incorporates elements of rockabilly, swing, jump, country, blues, and rock...which isn't hard to pull off one or two at a time...but that's a piece of work to do it here. but the jumping rhythm and swinging lyrics/music help this mover alot. I enjoyed the listen and caught myself tapping my feet along with the enjoyable music. Great lyrics and references! Nice song!

Americana Roots Review Vol. 59 - January 19, 2008

Text from www.americanaroots.com
This week on Ray Randall's podcast show, Americana Roots Review, you'll hear full length tracks from the following acts who represent some of the best new music in Americana. Sit back and enjoy music from Jackson Taylor, No Barbers Required, The Hummingbirds, Mike Parrish & Sixgun and Mat d The Profane Saints. While your listening to this great podcast show, take a few minutes to fill out our Podcast Survey (http://www.podtrac.com/audience/start-survey.aspx?ver=1 pid=zTnf686aRzA$) which will help us understand who listens to this show!

Americana Roots Radio is a 24/7 online radio station dedicated to the best Americana Music that we can find. The program director duties are split between Ray Randall and Gregg Geil and these weekly duties include chart reporting, adding new music and defining the rotation. This station is powered by a sophisticated radio automation software package that allows for real time update on our website of what's playing and allows you, the listener, to request songs. Internet Radio was blackballed a few years ago when the government passed the DMCA law which had a provision for the Small Webcasters Enforcement Act. This act strictly governs how we can operate are station and also sets forth some mandatory music licensing clauses (that most big radio don't have to deal with). These laws state how often we can play an artist, album and song in a certain time period so if you ever request a song and get some response saying "Artist Recently Played" this is due to those laws. Unlike most online stations, AmericanaRoots.com pays a blanket license each month to allow us to legally play this great music. We love programming this station each and every week. Any given month, we generally have thousands of listening hours by our audience so thank you for tuning and make sure you tell a friend about Roots Radio.

Australia's Paulie Jay Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - January 18, 2008

Heartfelt
Great recording quality and performances here. Terrific mix. Nice tempo shifts provide rhythmic interest and do a lot of convey mood.

Outro: Nice repeat of the opening lines of the song. Serves to bookend the track with good imagery. I like it.

Lyrics: Very sincere. I like your honesty and ability to convey your message without resorting to grandstanding or getting too preachy. It can be a tough thing getting the balance right in a song like this without coming off all pious like, but I think that you have got it right.

Mood: Earnest and uplifting. Even as an Aussie I can quite easily relate to the central theme of this song.

Regardless of what side of the political fence you sit, this is a warming tribute song that is handled with much maturity and grace.

Ben Cooper Reviews "Color Me Gone" - December 17, 2007

Good start
Wow...if this is a true story then I'm sorry you've had a rough time... the tune is good. Guitar work is steller..structure is very well done as well as the hook. It follows that country I lost my dog, wife and kids kinda theme though but it works for what you've done with it. Good on ya!

**Note - Hey Ben, go back and listen one more time. The character in the story didn't LOSE his dog, his wife or kids at all. He's telling his soon-to-be-ex that she has decided their whole lives for him and he'd rather split than live his life according to her design.

"You painted me a picture of a life so grand.
Little white house on our own piece of land.
You painted in the kids and the dog and the car.
You painted in the sun and the moon and the stars.
But you never told me nothin' of how I'd feel so alone.
You never mentioned nothin' 'bout a combat zone.
So when you get around to paintin' me, color me gone."

Thanks for the review!

Henry Monzello Reviews "Ain't We Got It Good" - December 6, 2007

America
The band wants comment on the outro, lyrics and mood.

Lyrics: Political overtones and well done. God bless your patriotism for our country. Lyrics of a high, noble and invaluable importance to all us us on this planet.

The outro: With all due respect to the band...do you mean the end of the song? If you do... then it is an outro ending. But just an ending..

The mood: It depends on who is listening to it. For me.. it's fantastic. - - Henry Monzello
Hacienda Heights, California
December 6th, 2007

A dying breed comes to life! Henry Monzello started to study music at the tender age of five. He learned the piano from his grandfather and performed his first piano solo when he was seven years old. By the time he was ten he had sung and played on different television shows and was the star of elementary school, junior high school and high school. He managed to work his way through college by performing here and there and then finally moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he was exposed to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and many other top performers of the time. After a few years in Vegas and some other spots in the U.S. Henry performed on some major cruise lines and then after a ten- year performance in South East Asia where Osaka, Japan was his home base he made his way to Europe. Since 1996, Henry has been performing around Europe with great success. It would be safe to say that Henry has show business in his blood. He comes from a famous show business family that performed as the Flying Monzellos in Barnum and Baileys Greatest Show On Earth. Henry has a rich background in training and experience and very few performers can match his repertoire and professionalism. Henry sings in five languages and performs Classical, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Blues, Pop, Country and Western, Boogie Woogie and Ragtime all without the use of any technological support. I believe that when you hear Henry Monzello perform you are listening to a slice of class and elegance with a rough edge on it that suits the more modern listener alike. I was so astounded by him that I convinced him to let me write this piece on him, and it turns out, that not only was I impressed by his voice and playing ability, but also by his general heart-warming attitude. Henry Monzello is also a really nice guy.
